Given the recent news about benzene being present in selected sunscreens, we recognize that many of our brand partners may be concerned about the potential presence of benzene in the products produced by Solésence. As some of you may know, benzene can be a byproduct of some processes used to make some raw materials and extracts that are used in personal care products, including sunscreens. To the best of our knowledge, no material used in a Solésence formula to date contains benzene at any measurable level, nor do any of the products we produce contain benzene.
At Solésence, we have a committee that approves all raw materials before we begin working with them. Our process includes requiring full disclosures for each raw material, including its byproducts, and if we do not receive a disclosure, we will not use the material in formulation. This screen is designed to ensure that the materials we are using are safe and effective. Additionally, our processes to make sunscreens do not create benzene as a byproduct. As a result, we are currently unaware of any potential benzene byproduct in our formulas.
Despite this high level of confidence in our processes, we plan to review additional options, including established USP methods for testing, to further ensure that all of the products we produce remain safe, effective, and free of benzene.
